Youth Alive! Kenya (Y.A.K) is an independent national youth-led non-governmental organization that envisions a society where young people are empowered to realize their full potential. We promote the well-being and inclusion of young people in development through partnerships, capacity building, and advocacy. Y.A.K works with youth, women and PWDs groups and networks commonly referred to as County Working Groups/ Member Organizations in 12 counties Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kakamega, WestPokot, Siaya, Kiambu, Murang’a, Machakos, Uasin Gishu, Kajiado and Kirinyaga.
The aim of this network is to influence youth participation in development and decision-making processes and hold county governments accountable for quality service delivery, as well as improve their livelihoods. We also seek to strengthen youth participation in the development agenda in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets at County, National, Regional and Global levels.
THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Youth Alive Kenya has partnered with YETT (Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust)- Zimbabwe and DUF (Danish Youth Council)- Denmark in a Youth Network PARTICIPATE! Project. The partnership has yielded valuable experience on how youth networks may best act as legitimate and purposeful platforms for young people’s democratic organization.
PARTICIPATE! promotes a democratic civil society where young people act as change agents that take part in decision-making processes and influence politics and developmental efforts. Youth Alive! Kenya will be holding a national youth conference from 13th- 17th June 2022 bringing together a total of 36 participants from member organizations and partners. The objective of the conference will be to equip the participants with knowledge and skills in democratic participation and their way of life, as well as strengthen solidarity amongst member organizations. The conference will bring together representatives from organizations working with marginalized youth, women, and people with disabilities from rural, urban, peri-urban and marginalized areas. Successful national conference participants stand an opportunity to attend the International Conference to be held later in October 2022 that will bring together members from Members organizations in Kenya (Y.A.K), Zimbabwe (YETT), and Denmark (DUF) to foster cross-country learning, networking, development of partnerships and co-creation of change projects and activities that qualify for funding form the DUFs (Danish Youth Council) international pool.
