Undertaken in 2013 in the race up to the 4th March elections, this project was carried out in Mathare slums with support from USAID, PACT and ACT! One of the major issues threatening peaceful elections and co-existence between the communities in Mathare Slum Valley, specifically Mathare 3B, was youth’s susceptibility to radical mobilization and manipulation by political leaders to perpetrate violence and perpetuate ethnic divisions between ethnic communities residing in the area. This project successfully promoted youth-led awareness on the ills of ethnic-based violence, and underlined the importance of peaceful co-existence among different communities in Mathare slums.
