YouthParticipate is a youth and health project being implemented Youth Alive! Kenya in Kakamega County. It targets inherent problems among the youths including a sexual debut at lower age, low contraception against high fertility rate, high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and STIs, sexual abuse and violence, drug and substance abuse that increases vulnerability to HIV infections, child marriages, harmful cultural beliefs and practices, and schools dropouts especially among girls.
The project aims to address the burden of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender inequality among a large number of youths in the county.
The project has successfully mobilized and sensitized the youth to participate in county development processes and influence the prioritization and access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality services, to strengthen linkages between local youth organizations and county governments and establish active feedback & information sharing mechanisms.
