Key Areas of Our Work
We champion for young people to have access to a variety of contraceptive methods to prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. This access is facilitated through health facilities, clinics, and outreach programs. In addition, we promote age-appropriate, scientifically accurate comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) to equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, relationships, and rights.
We advocate for the establishment of accessible, non-judgmental health centers that are tailored to the specific needs of young people. These centers offer confidential consultations and support related to sexual and reproductive health. Our advocacy efforts involve collaborating with civil society organizations and youth-led initiatives to raise awareness, challenge social stigma, and promote positive attitudes towards young people’s sexual and reproductive well-being.
Highlight: The Challenge Initiative in Siaya County
Supported by TCI East Africa and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the Gates Institute, the initiative focuses on increasing the uptake of Family Planning (FP) services and advocating for increased county government commitments in Siaya County by boosting budgetary allocations.
The project works with 30 ward-based youth organizations across Siaya County to hold the local government accountable for their commitments to FP and Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health (AYSRH) services. We have successfully linked local youth and women civil society organizations with sub-county Reproductive Health coordinators to ensure accurate information on FP services is accessible.
Through training youth advocates on budget and policy advocacy, we presented a memorandum on health priorities to the Siaya County Directorate of Health (CDOH) for the 3rd Generation CIDP 2023-2027. In partnership with the Husika Dada Platform and Siaya Muungano Network, we developed an FP tracking tool to monitor FP services at local health facilities. This tool was successfully administered at Kapiyo Health Center, with findings shared to enhance social accountability and improve FP services. Our work in SRHR and FP aims to empower youth and ensure they have the resources and support needed to lead healthy, informed lives.
