The Decent Work And Labour Rights

The Decent Work and Labor Rights Program in East Africa-Phase II also Known as the Jipe Job Poa is a Youth Economic and Empowerment project implemented in a partnership between Youth Alive! Kenya (YAK) and Forum for International Co-operation (FIC). Guided by a common interest of improving Youth Access to Labor Market, YAK has partnered with Faglit Internationalit Center for Uddannelse (FIC) and other strategic stakeholders in the labour market to implement a program that aims at increasing knowledge and skills of young people on employment possibilities (entrepreneurship and formal jobs) in Kenya (Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu) and Tanzania (Dar es Salaam).

The Program being implemented in Kisumu County since 2017 has been able to Support and Mobilize young people and Youth Networks (Kisumu County Working Group, FIC/YAK) in giving input to the  review of the Kisumu County Draft Youth policy 2015 and the National Youth Policy 2010, and have also supported young people in the County to attend and participate in the  Public Participation on the development of Kisumu County CIDP 2018-20122 and Annual Development Plan FY 2018/19. YAK has also supported the Capacity training of Trainer of Trainers (TOTs) in supporting the Labor Market Access/Employability Skills Training and Business Skills and Entrepreneurship Training in the County with a total of 554 young people (424 Female and 131 male) having benefited from the Employability SKills training with 41 currently in Employment while of the 228 young people trained (199 Female 29 Male) on BSED 10 are actively running their business and 48 linked with the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) and Women Enterprise Development Fund (WEDF) to access credit and financial support.

Through the DWLRP – Phase II, YAK has also been able to involve the Member Organizations in 12 counties in decision making processes as they participate in the implementation of organization’s program and have also been equipped with Skills on Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Learning. Besides, they participated in the  review of YAK Strategic plan 2015-2019 thats  puts them at the centre of every decision making in the organization.
